East Zone held Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to a creditable draw in their three-day match, which was held at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack from 22 to 24 December, 1961. Representing East Zone team, Orissa allrounder Santanu Satpathy put up notable performance, bagging one wicket in the first innings and two in the second.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, MCC declared their first innings at 261 for four. In reply, East Zone rode on a half-century each by Madhurya Barua and Ramnath Baburao Kenny to declare at 263 for eight. In the second innings, MCC declared at 277 for five. The highlight of the match was a sparkling second-innings knock of 147 by MCC opener Peter Richardson.
